Tips for Decorating Your Home

As y’all know Bradley and I bought a house June 1st! We did some renovations and moved in 6 weeks later. That 6 weeks felt like FOREVER, but it did allow me to shop for furniture and home decor. Now that we are in, and the house is pretty much furnished, I want to share what I learned throughout the home decorating process.

I am not an interior designer, and I definitely don’t have this down to a science, but I hope I can make this process easier for someone else trying to decorate their home!

Tip #1 : Use Pinterest for inspiration

Pinterest has become my best friend! I look on Pinterest everyday. It’s a great place to find inspiration, and it’s also a great place to figure out your style. My style has changed a lot in the last year. I went from farmhouse to a more modern boho style. Very clean, lots of natural wood and greenery, and neutrals everywhere!

Tip #2 : Don’t try to furnish every room right away

I learned this once I was done… I was so excited to finally decorate a space that I went crazy and bought furniture for every room! Once I got it and put it in it’s space, I realized there were some pieces that didn’t really go with the others. I wish I would have bought stuff for one room and worked my way around the house. That would have saved us a lot of money and time on returns.

Tip #3 : Start with the main living areas and go from there

I started in our breakfast area. I did this because our couch in our living room was late getting to us and I felt like I couldn’t buy anything for the living room until we had our couch. I wish I would have waited to buy the big staple pieces. In my opinion, the living room sets the tone for the rest of the house. If you start with the living room and make your way around the house, I think it will feel more cohesive.

Tip #4 : Wait and get what you love

It’s not that I don’t love what we have in our house. I love how it’s coming together and it feels like home. BUT, there are a couple of things that I didn’t buy because they were pretty expensive. Instead I bought a less expensive option that I liked but didn’t love. I wish I would have waited and bought what I really loved.

Tip #5 : Take Risks

If you love something but it seems too risky, try it! There’s been a couple of things that I haven’t bought because they have been a little out of my comfort zone, and I wish I would have bought them. 9 out of 10 times it will look good! If it doesn’t you can laugh it off and buy something else. I’m currently debating on buying a brass hammered coffee table for our living room, it is definitely out of my comfort zone, but I feel like I need to give it a shot! Those risks usually turn out to be the best pieces in the house!

If you are currently decorating a home or apartment, I hope these tips help. It is so fun making a space YOUR space. I have loved every second of it.

As always, all opinions and text are my own.

Stay Sweet!
